31/7/2006 9:52

Some ten thousand Belgian took to the streets in Brussels on Sunday to protest against the war in Lebanon, urging the international community to stop the war in the country.

On Sunday morning, at least fifty-four people, more than half of them children, were killed in an Israeli airstrike in the southern Lebanese village of Qana.

This latest carnage in Lebanon probably motivated many people to take part in the demonstration.

According to VRT news reports, an estimated 10,000 men, women and children, many of them families of Lebanese descent, turned up to show their support to the people in the war-stricken region in southern Lebanon.

They criticized Israel, but also the United Nations and the European Union, for not doing enough to stop the war.

They said it's up to the United Nations and Europe to make sure a solution is found to stop hostilities between Israel and Lebanon.
