Kuwaiti parliament speaker condemns Israeli attack on Qana in southern Lebanon
31/7/2006 9:53

Kuwaiti parliament speaker Jassem al Kharafi on Sunday sharply condemned the Israeli assault on civilians in the southern Lebanese village of Qana.

Kharafi said the Israeli "savage and barbaric" aggression on Lebanon surpassed all moral and humanitarian limits, disregarding international law, human rights and the world community.

He stressed that the allies of Israel, led by the United States, should re-examine their positions and attitudes, otherwise they would lose their Arab and Muslim friends.

The massacre carried out by Israel in Qana was aimed to abort the mission of U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice whose arrival to Israel coincided with this brutal aggression, Kharafi added.

The Speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly believed that those who think the continuation of the Israeli aggression would help achieve security for Israel and peace in the region appeared to be wrong.

This aggression would bring the peace process to a dead end and deepen the hostile feeling to Israel and the American policy in the region, he said.

He warned Israel of the danger of scorning the Arab and Islamic peoples and their reactions. He stressed that the Israeli aggression is a barbaric attack aimed at the destruction of Lebanon, not to disarm Hezbollah.

At least 51 Lebanese, including 22 children, were killed in an Israeli air raid on the village of Qana Sunday morning, the deadliest single Israeli attack since the conflict began 19 days ago.
