US President George W. Bush on Monday reiterated calls for a sustainable
peace in the Middle East and said the United States was working at the United
Nations Security Council for a resolution on the region's crisis.
"We want there to be a long-lasting peace, one that is
sustainable," Bush said in a speech in Miami, Florida.
"I assured the people here that we will work toward a plan at the United
Nations Security Council that addresses the root causes of the problem, so that
whatever comes out of the Security Council will last," Bush said.
Bush added that he would discuss the Middle East crisis with his Secretary of
State Condoleezza Rice later on Monday after she came back from her Middle East
mission.
The Bush administration has supported Israel's military action in Lebanon by
claiming that Israel is defending itself against Lebanese Hezbollah, a group
termed by the United States as terrorist.
However, Israeli military strikes in Lebanon have caused a humanitarian
crisis in the country.
