Syrian PM phones Lebanon's PM to reiterate support
3/8/2006 10:12

Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Naji Ottri phoned his Lebanese counterpart Fuad Siniora on Wednesday, reiterating support to the sisterly neighbor, the official SANA news agency reported.

Ottri stressed, "Syria puts all its capabilities under the disposal of Lebanon to support its heroic steadfastness and enhance its national unity in face of the Israeli brutal aggression".

The national resistance in Lebanon offered "great sacrifices in defense of the Arab dignity and self-esteem", Ottri said.

The two sides also reviewed the latest developments on the Lebanese arena and the repercussions of the U.S.-backed Zionist aggression against Lebanese people while criticizing the "suspicious international silence over Israel's terrorism and mass killings in Lebanon."

For his part, Siniora expressed "profound gratitude" to Syria's principled stances and its support to Lebanon in facing this aggression, SANA said.

Israel has continued a massive assault against Lebanon's Shiite group Hezbollah and expanded its ground operations, while Lebanon's Hezbollah on Wednesday fired rockets on the Israeli town of Beit She'an, the furthest area into Israel that the Shiite group rockets have ever reached since the violence began.

The violence between Israel and Hezbollah erupted on July 12 in the wake of the abduction of two Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah guerrillas in cross-border raids.
