Israeli aircraft hit three bridges connecting Beirut to the northern part
of the country early today, local media reported.
Israeli warplanes destroyed the three bridges, the Lebanese Broadcasting
Corp. (LBC) television reported.
The Madfoun Bridge, about 40 km north of Beirut, was destroyed, leaving
several people injured, the report said.
The Casino bridge in Jounieh, a port city in the Christian heartland, 20 km
north of Beirut, was also targeted and several people were wounded.
Israeli aircraft also hit Halat Bridge connecting northern Lebanon and
Beirut, killing at least one, the report added.
Late Thursday, Israeli warplanes bombarded Ouzai, a Hezbollah stronghold in
the south of Beirut in several air raids, killing one and wounding several
others, according to LBC television.
The attacks came hours after Hezbollah's al-Manar television aired a
statement by its leader Hassan Nasrallah, who threatened to fire rockets at Tel
Aviv if Beirut was hit by Israel.
"If you target our capital, we will target yours. If you target Beirut, we
will target Tel Aviv, and Hezbollah is capable of doing so," Nasrallah said.
He also outlined errors of the Israeli government, describing Israeli Prime
Minister Ehud Olmert as "the worst and the lousiest prime minister."
