In response to the Israeli aggression, Indonesia's Muslim party the
Prosperous and Justice Party (PKS) called Friday for boycott of U.S. and Israeli
productsin Indonesia, as religious leaders plan a massive rally on Sunday.
"PKS strongly condemned the Israeli brutality which killed Lebanese and
Palestinian children," Ja'far Tri Kuswahyono, chairman of PKS East Java chapter,
was quoted by the Antara news agency as saying.
The party called on its members in East Java to hold anti-Israeli rallies and
express solidarity to the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples.
He also demanded that the Indonesian chamber of commerce and industry (KADIN)
cut off its business ties with Israeli businessmen. PKS staged anti-Israeli
rallies in Malang and Pasuruan, both in East Java, on Friday.
Meanwhile, in Yogyakarta, central Java, tens of members of the Muslim
Brotherhood Forum held a rally to call for peace in the Middle East.
"We condemn all forms of violence which killed many people in Lebanon,
Palestine and other places," Muhaimin, coordinator of the Forum said in
Yogyakarta on Friday.
"We urge the United Nations to immediate take firm action to return peace to
Lebanon, and to end humanitarian crisis in the region," he said.
In Jakarta, a number of Muslim, Christian, Hindu and Buddhist clerics and
organizations will take part in a "one-million-people"rally in front of the UN
representative office and U.S. embassy on Sunday to express opposition to
Israeli aggression to Lebanon.
Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, has no diplomatic ties
with Israel.
