The Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah does not take orders from Iran,
Iranian ambassador to France AliAhani said, adding that an immediate ceasefire
was needed in Lebanon.
In an interview with French daily Le Monde, Ahani said, "Our relations have
always been emotional and spiritual. Hezbollah doesnot take orders from Iran".
Concerning the military support to the Lebanese actions, Ahani said, "That is
part of American accusations. Hezbollah has many channels through which it can
obtain what it needs." "We don't have the slightest desire for a military option
on a regional level, he said.
Ahani also said Iran and France have potential to make consultations over
Lebanon.
He deplored the "regrettable" Washington's "political will" of giving more
time to Israel.
"It is sad to see the Americans, with their 'Great Middle East' and now 'New
Middle East' have given a green light to Israel and set the region on fire," he
said.
As to Iran's controversial nuclear program, he said, "Iran's civilian nuclear
program will never be a military program. Our military defense principle is
clear and weapons of mass destruction will never under any pretext have their
place under this principle."
He also said there was no sign that the United States really wanted a
solution. "We negotiate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and
Europe," he added.
The U.N. Security Council on Monday adopted a resolution giving one month to
Iran to end its uranium enrichment program, otherwise it will face possible
sanctions.
