Thousands of South Africans marched through the streets of Cape Town to
Parliament on Saturday to demand diplomatic and trade sanctions against Israel.
The protest action in Cape Town, Pretoria and elsewhere, was tourge the South
African government to recall the South African ambassador from Tel Aviv and to
end all diplomatic relations with Israel.
South Africans also called for trade and other sanctions on Israel and to
demand that South Africans serving in the Israeli defense force be prosecuted.
The march, one of several organized around the country this week, was under
the auspices of a broad coalition of trade unions, religious bodies and civil
society.
It includes, among others, the Palestine Solidarity Committee, the Anti-War
Coalition, the Muslim Judicial Council, the Anti-Eviction Campaign, and Congress
