One Israeli soldier was killed in fierce clashes between Israeli troops
and Hezbollah guerrillas in southern Lebanon on Monday, the Israeli army said.
Four other Israeli soldiers were also lightly wounded in the confrontation in
the southern Lebanese village of Bint Jbeil, said the army.
At least five Hezbollah guerillas were killed, it added. Earlier, Arab
satellite channels reported that three Israeli soldiers were killed and several
wounded in the clashes in BintJbeil.
Bint Jbeil, about 4 km into south Lebanon from the border with Israel, is a
Hezbollah stronghold. The village has witnessed fierce fightings between Israeli
troops and Hezbollah guerillas. Israel continued a 27-day-old massive offensive
against Lebanon's Hezbollah on Monday and pressed ahead intense airstrikes and
ground operations.
Over 90 Israelis have been killed and Lebanon said that more than 900
Lebanese, most of them civilians, died in the violence.
