9/8/2006 10:09

Three Israeli soldiers were killed in fierce clashes with Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas in south Lebanon on Tuesday, the Israeli army said.

Two Israeli soldiers were killed and two others wounded in the early hours of Tuesday during fighting in the southern Lebanese village of Labouna, said the army.

The Israeli troops have been battling Hezbollah gunmen in the village since Monday night.

Another Israeli soldier was killed early Tuesday when an anti-tank missile fired by Hezbollah guerillas hit an Israeli armored personnel carrier in the southern Lebanese village of Dibel, close to the town of Bint Jbeil, where three Israeli soldiers were killed on Monday.

Five other Israeli soldiers were also lightly wounded in the missile attack, said the army.

The Israeli army has imposed a curfew on areas south of Lebanon's Litani River, which is roughly 20 km from Israel's northern border, warning residents on Monday to stay indoors after 10:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

Violence between Israel and Hezbollah erupted on July 12 when Hezbollah guerillas kidnapped two Israeli soldiers and killed eight during cross-border attacks.

One hundred Israelis and over 1,000 Lebanese have been killed in the 28 days of fighting.
