Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Seniora reiterated on Tuesday that Israel
should withdraw from all Lebanese territories, even from Shebaa Farms despite a
Lebanese-Syrian argument regarding the farms.
"Israel's presence in Shebaa is unacceptable since it has no right to be
present on the land," Seniora told the pan-Arab al-Arabiya TV channel in an
interview.
He said that both Lebanon and Syria do not mind the presence of UNIFIL in
Shebaa Farms, though Syria has some reservations regarding demarcation of its
borders with Lebanon.
"A decision regarding deployment of Lebanese troops in south Lebanon along
with UNIFIL troops was a unanimous decision taken by the government, including
Hezbollah ministers," Seniora said, referring to the Monday decision.
Created in 1978 and deployed in south Lebanon since then, the UNIFIL has been
committed to confirming an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon, restoring peace and
security and helping the Lebanese government restore its effective authority in
the area.
"It is time the Israel could start considering a different approach, because
aggression and bloody policy only create more aggression and blood," Seniora
said.
A conflict erupted in Lebanon on July 12 when Israel started a massive
assault following the capture of two Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah guerillas in
a cross-border attack.
