Canada resumes evacuation of citizens from Lebanon
10/8/2006 10:07

Canada has booked two ships to carry citizens from Lebanon next week after halting the evacuation efforts earlier this month.

The ships are expected to carry about 2,400 Canadians from Beirut to a destination yet to be determined, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported Wednesday citing the embassy in Beirut.

Canada first began to move its citizens from Beirut to Cyprus and Turkey on July 19. About 13,000 Canadians were helped home. Ottawa stopped its evacuation efforts on Aug. 3.

As many as 40,000 Canadian citizens were believed to be in Lebanon when the conflict began on July 12.
