More than 1,000 Lebanese civilians have been killed since Israel launched an
offensive on Lebanon nearly one month ago, the state relief committee announced
on Thursday.
At least 1,002 civilians and 30 soldiers and policemen have been killed and
3,580 wounded, the committee said. Meanwhile, the Israeli army dropped leaflets
on Shiite dominated southern Beirut on Thursday, asking residents there to leave
immediately.
Israel has been battling Lebanese Hezbollah since the Shiite group abducted
two Israeli soldiers in a cross-border raid on July 12.
