Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono visited Friday the Halim
Perdanakusumah air force base in Jakarta for a brief tour of inspection of
troops prepared for possible UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.
Hundreds of troops wearing UN blue helmets formed lines in front of white
armored vehicles with UN letters painted on them as the president and Indonesian
Military Chief Air Marshal Djoko Suyanto were inspecting them.
The military chiefs from Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei met here Thursday
during which they agreed to participate in a UN peacekeeping mission in the
Middle East.
The Indonesian military has readied 850 soldiers, Malaysia between 850 and
1,000, and Brunei around 200.
During the meeting, Djoko Suyanto said the three countries "agreed not to
look at race or religion when carrying out the mission."
