Lebanese Hezbollah fired rockets on northern Israeli city of Haifa early
Sunday evening, despite a UNSC resolution approved by both Israel and Lebanon.
Several buildings and cars were damaged in the attack, but no casualties were
reported for the time being, an official from a communication
center in Haifa told Xinhua.
As of Sunday evening, over 200 rockets launched by the Lebanese guerillas
landed across cities and towns in north Israel.
The fresh attack came a few hours after the Israeli cabinet approved the UN
Security Council Resolution 1701 to end hostilities in Lebanon.
The resolution, which was also accepted by Lebanese cabinet on Saturday
night, calls for Israel's withdrawal and authorizes an increase of the existing
UN force in Lebanon to 15,000 troops to help Lebanese government troops take
control of south Lebanon as Israel withdraws.
On Sunday morning, one person was killed as a rocket launched by Lebanese
Hezbollah made direct hit on a house in the northern town of Shlomi. Another
person was moderately injured in the attack.
In addition, two northern Israeli residents were moderately wounded by
shrapnel and another lightly injured when a Katyusha rocket struck the northern
town of Safed.
