The United States' "Greater Middle East" project of enforcing democracy in
the region has already failed, judged by the current Lebanon-Israeli conflict,
Iranian Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said Saturday.
The United States and its ally Israel have failed to achieved their strategic
goals due to resistance by the Lebanese people and vigilance on the part of many
countries in the region, Najjar said.
In remarks made at a Defense Ministry meeting, Najjar said the U.S. "Greater
Middle East" plan was designed to dominate the whole region. If the plan
succeeded, even the whole of Europe could become its new colonies, as well as
countries in the Middle East, he asserted.
He said the plan's failure also showed that the "iron fist" policy would no
longer work.
He stressed that the only solutions to different crises in the Middle East
lie in the achievement of lasting peace based on fairness and justice, and the
rejection of any discriminatory and unilateral actions.
