Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Kurbi held talks with his Iranian
counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki here on Saturday on bilateral ties and regional
issues, particularly the escalating conflict in Lebanon.
Al-Kurb, noting that Israel's incursion has plunged the Lebanese people into
the abyss of suffering and destroyed the country's infrastructure, expressed the
hope that the UN resolution adopted on Friday will be the first step toward a
tangible solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Mottaki praised Yemen's stance on the Israel-Lebanon conflict and stressed
that the Arab and Islamic countries should make concerted efforts to seek a
comprehensive solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict.
At a separate meeting with Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh,Mottaki
delivered to him a letter from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, which
mainly deals with Iran-Yemen ties and the situation in the Middle East.
In the letter, Ahmadinejad praised Yemen's stance on a series of issues
concerning the Islamic world and expressed the hope for closer ties with Yemen.
At the meeting, Saleh reiterated that Iran and all other Islamic countries
have the rights for peaceful use of nuclear energy.
Mottaki arrived here earlier in the day for a one-day visit.
