Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul will pay visits to Israel and Palestine
on Sunday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported Saturday.
Gul is expected to hold talks with Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz and
his Israeli counterpart Tzipi Livni, and will be received by Israeli Prime
Minister Ehud Olmert, the report said.
After his meetings in Israel, Gul will proceed to the West Bankand meet with
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah.
Gul, who paid a one-day visit to Lebanon on Wednesday, said that Turkey has
not made its final decision on whether to send troops to join a UN peacekeeping
force in south Lebanon.
As a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and one of
Israel's few Muslim friends in the region, Turkey has expressed willingness to
contribute to peacekeeping in Lebanon butsaid that even if it eventually sends
troops to Lebanon, the forcewill under no circumstances be a combat force.
Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah ended a 33-day-long fighting on Monday after
the UN Security Council adopted a ceasefire resolution, which authorizes an
increase of the existing UN force in Lebanon to 15,000 troops to help Lebanese
troops take control of south Lebanon, Hezbollah's stronghold, while Israel
withdraws in parallel.
