Pakistan Monday said it has not yet taken a decision to send its troops to
join the United Nation peacekeepers in Lebanon and will make one based on the
ground realities.
Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam told reporters at the weekly
briefing, "No decision has been taken to take part in peacekeeping mission under
the UN Resolution 1701."
Responding to reports in the media on Pakistan's participation, she said,
these were mostly speculative.
She said Pakistan will agree to send troops under the UN umbrella and
acceptance of the mandate by all parties involved in the conflict.
Aslam said Pakistan has been contributing troops as part of its longstanding
policy of contributing troops to UN missions around the world.
When asked whether there was any change in Pakistan's policy on Israel in
view of its attack on Lebanon, the spokesperson said any "progress toward the
Pakistan-Israel relations will depend on the progress on the peace process and
establishment of Palestinian state and just solution of the Middle East."
She said Pakistan's foreign minister met his Israeli counterpart in Turkey
after it vacated Gaza to demonstrate that as it moves towards just resolution of
Palestine, the Muslim countries will correspondingly move forward.
