European Union members will meet in Brussels on Friday to discuss their
contributions to a UN force in Lebanon, the EU's Finnish presidency announced
here Tuesday.
Finland, which currently holds the rotating EU presidency, will convene an
extraordinary meeting of EU foreign ministers to discuss issues relating to UN
peacekeeping force in Lebanon.
UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan will attend the meeting, which will be
chaired by Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja.
Earlier in the day, Italian Foreign Minister Massimo D'Alema asked Finland to
convene a special meeting to discuss EU participation in the UN peacekeeping
force to Lebanon. Italy has offered to lead the peacekeeping force.
