Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf and Jordanian King Abdullah-II
Tuesday called for Israeli withdrawal and restoration of Lebanon sovereignty and
integrity as well as a honorable solution to the Palestine problem.
In their statement after one-and-half-hour talks, the two leaders said it is
essential that Israel troops should withdraw from Lebanon so that the root cause
of the recurring problem in the Middle East could be addressed.
Musharraf said that it is incumbent upon the international community and the
Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) to extend generous help both to Lebanon
and to Palestine in their rebuilding and rehabilitation efforts.
The Jordanian King in his statement hoped that the international community
will support the government of Lebanon in extending its sovereignty and control
overall of its borders by ensuring the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon
and finding a comprehensive solution for permanent cease fire.
Abdullah arrived in Islamabad early Tuesday for a brief visit to discuss
latest development in the region and further strengthening of their
multi-faceted bilateral ties.
