A Qassam rocket fired by Palestinian militants in Gaza landed near a
strategic site in the southern Israeli port city of Ashkelon yesterday morning,
said an Israeli army spokeswoman.
The spokeswoman for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) told Xinhua that the
rocket landed in a compound in the city Ashkelon but caused no injury or damage.
She, however, declined to reveal details about the compound due to the army's
censorship.
The newly landed Qassam rocket brings to five the number of rockets fired on
Tuesday morning at Israel.
Among the other four rockets landed in Israel in the morning, one landed in
the western Negev city of Sderot causing damage to a building, and the other
three landed in open areas nearby with no report of injuries.
According to the spokeswoman, around 60 rockets have been launched at Israel
since a truce deal between Israel and the Palestinians took effect on Nov. 26.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry said Monday that its ambassador to the United
Nations had been instructed to submit an urgent protest to the duty president of
the UN Security Council, condemning Palestinian violations of the ceasefire.
