The United States has suspended about 24 million dollars of military
assistance to Thailand due to a coup that ousted the prime minister Thaksin
Shinawatra, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said yesterday.
"In response to the military coup on September 19 in Thailand, the United
States has suspended almost 24 million dollars of assistance to the Thai
government," McCormack said at a briefing.
The suspended aid involved foreign military financing, international military
education and training, and peacekeeping operations, the spokesman said.
Moreover, the United States continues to urge a rapid return to democratic
rule and early elections in Thailand, McCormack added.
