Switzerland on Monday condemned the nuclear test carried out by the
Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), saying it is ready to support
United Nations sanctions against Pyongyang.
In a strongly worded statement, the Swiss Foreign Ministry described the reported test as running "counter to
international efforts to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons and a
threat to the security of the region."
The DPRK nuclear test could lead to a regional arms race, the statement said.
It added Switzerland would cooperate with any decision by the UN Security
Council to impose binding sanctions against DPRK.
