The Democratic People's Republic of Korea(DPRK) said yesterday that its
stance and will to maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsular and to
develop ties with South Korea "remains unchanged."
However, it warned Seoul not to follow the United States in imposing
sanctions and blockades on the DPRK.
According to the official Korean Central News Agency, a spokesperson of the
Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland said Seoul, under
U.S. pressure, has stopped humanitarian work with the DPRK, attempted to
terminate cooperation in all areas, and "joined the U.S.-led military action
aimed at cutting off the DPRK."
Such actions are an attempt to sabotage relations between Pyongyang and Seoul
and to intensify the tension on the Korean Peninsular, the spokesperson said.
Cooperation between Pyongyang and Seoul does not benefit one side only but
serves to pursue common national interests and prosperity and enhance national
reconciliation and solidarity, he said.
South Korea "has no reason whatsoever to participate in actions that hurt the
same nation," the spokesperson said.
He added that the DPRK is now watching the attitude of South Korea and would
"take necessary measures" if Seoul is intent on joining the United States'
sanctions and blockades against Pyongyang, the spokesperson said.
