The Democratic People's Republic of Korea(DPRK) yesterday lashed out at a
plan by the United States and South Korea aimed at coping with an emergency
situation in the DPRK.
In a statement issued by the official Committee
for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, the DPRK described the plan
named " CONPLAN 5029" as "a dangerous move to mount a preemptive military attack
on it", the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
The statement added that CONPLAN 5029 was "an intolerable provocation openly
revealing an ambition to invade the DPRK".
CONPLAN 5029 was meant to supplement OPLAN 5027, the long-standing war plan
prepared by the U.S.-South Korean Combined Forces Command in case of an all-out
war with the DPRK.
In the wake of the DPRK's nuclear test in October, the United States and
South Korea have agreed to develop a new contingency plan to take military
action against the DPRK in scenarios short of an attack from the north side of
the peninsular.
