Myanmar will send a 66-member delegation including 40 athletes to compete
in seven sports in the upcoming 15th Asian Games slated for Dec. 1-15 in Doha,
Qatar, according to the Myanmar Ministry of Sports Thursday.
The 40 athletes -- 26 men and 14 women -- will participate in archery,
billiards and snooker, sailing, shooting, sepak-takraw, weight lifting and wushu
events in the Doha Asian Games.
Four men athletes will take part in archery, three men in billiards and
snooker, four men and women each in sailing, 11 men and four women in
sepak-takraw, one man in shooting, five women in weight lifting and three men
and one woman in wushu events in the competition.
The leader of Myanmar sports delegation for the Asian Games 2006 told Xinhua
that Myanmar athletes will endeavor for good results.
Myanmar aims to get gold medals in billiards and snooker and sepak-takraw
events, the official said, adding that Myanmar have to compete mainly with
China, Chinese Taipei, South Korea, Japan and Thailand in the women's weight
lifting event and with China, China's Hong Kong, China's Macao and Vietnam in
the wushu event.
Myanmar hopes to get at least one gold, three to four silver and five bronze
medals in the Doha Asian Games, he added.
Myanmar sent a 126-member delegation to compete in 13 sports in the last 14th
Asian Games in 2002, gaining one gold, five silver and six bronze medals.
