Sri Lanka came to Doha with high expectations after Sri Lanka's successful
hosting of the 10th South Asian Games in Colombo.
Maxwell De Silva, the deputy Chef de mission of the Sri Lanka delegation said
on Tuesday they hope to bring back more medals from the Doha Asiad than Busan,
South Korea.
"We tried to keep balance of the young talented and the old experienced this
time, but we are confident of winning more medals(from Doha) than Busan. " said
Silve.
Besides track and field, Sri Lanka may do well in sailing, billiard, boxing,
weight lifting and chess.
"Those who won medals from the 10th South Asian Games in August are to strive
for medals in Doha," said Silva
"With the presence of Asian sporting giants China, Japan and South Korea, it
will be a tough task for them in Doha. Nevertheless, we have the ability and the
courage to do well at the Games, " added Silva.
Sri Lanka sent a 227-strong contingent to Doha. A total of 151 athletes will
compete in 24 sports.
Sri Lanka finished 20th at the medal tally in 2002 Busan Asian Games with two
gold, one silver and three bronze medals.
