Chinese Taipei tennis head coach Nan Chen said on Wednesday that China will
be the most threatening opponent in the forthcoming Asiad women's tennis
tournament.
"It will depend on the draw. Our men's team is seeded second and our women's
team is seeded third," said Nan at the Khalifa Tennis Courts.
"Everything will depend on the performance. We will have a best chance to win
a medal in the men's team event. For the women it will be very difficult to win
a medal.
"Japan and South Korea are the biggest opponents for the men. For the ladies
it will be China."
The Chinese female players came into Doha as the hottest favorites for the
women's events, featuring Asian number one Li Na, number three Zheng Jie, number
four Peng Shuai and doubles aces Yan Zi, who partnered Zheng to win the
Australian Open and Wimbledon this year and 2004 Olympic champions Li Ting/Sun
Tiantian.
Four years ago at Busan, South Korea, Chinese Taipei claimed the mixed
doubles while China suffered a heavy trauma heading with hopes of chalking up at
least one gold but coming back even without a single semifinalist.
