Mayor of the Athletes' Village Ahmed A.al-Khulaifi said Wednesday that no
more chicken pox case was reported in the village after several players of the
Maldives men's volleyball team for the 15th Asian Games were diagnosed as
infected.
"We have adopted the immediate measures against the chicken pox cases. Now
the village is safe and no further cases were reported," said Ahmed.
The disease was spotted shortly in one Maldivian player after the men's
volleyball team arrived in Doha last week.
Other players of the 16-member team were screened and half were found to be
immune due to be previously affected by the disease. The other half are
considered to be at risk.
The Asian Volleyball Confederation ordered another examination of team
members considered to be still at risk, which was conducted on Nov. 28.
At least one, but probably two, athletes were found to be affected by the
disease.
"We have a complete set of lash-up scheme as to any emergency at the
Athletes' Village. The related functionary departments will react quickly and
they will be reached immediately upon the incidents," added Ahmed.
