World No. 2 Guo Yan returned to play against Vietnam at China's second
match of the women's team first round at the Doha Asian Games here on Wednesday,
after missing the world champions' opener against Kuwait in the morning for
treating her inflamed eye.
"She's been all right after the treatment and showed her game against the
Vietnamese," said head coach Shi Zhihao after Guo breezed past Pham Thi 11-3,
11-1, 11-3 to help China win over Vietnam without losing a set.
Guo, 23, failed to show up six hours earlier when China played Kuwait, as the
newly crowned World Cup holder had an eye ailment.
"Now we can see that she's fit to match," added Shi.
According to a source close to the Chinese team's medical staff, Guo Yan had
been sent to the hospital inside the Athletes' Villageand did some transfusions
to cure her eye, but it's not been confirmed by members of the Chinese team.
"It should be some inflammation," the source told Xinhua.
