Chinese swimming ace Wu Peng hoped toretain his title in men's 200m
butterfly in Doha Asian Games, he said here on Wednesday.
"I hope I can win the gold," said the 19-year-old Wu, who also clinched the
400m individual medley and 200m backstroke golds in Busan Asian Games four years
ago.
Wu had to give up 400m IM, one of his favorite events in this games as the
200m butterfly and 400m IM both take place on the first day of the competition
on Saturday, which left Wu with only one individual event.
Wu will be almost sure to face a rematch with Japanese Takashi Yamamoto.
Wu beat Yamamoto to the second place in the 200m fly in Busan but Yamamoto
bagged a bronze in 2004 Athens Olympic Games in the same event where Wu finished
sixth.
"Japanese swimmers are very strong opponents. I will not take any of them
lightly but I am going to try my best to defend the title," he said.
The 19-year-old started training in the afternoon on the same day when the
Chinese swimming team arrived in Doha at 3:00 in the morning.
