Coach: Knee injury won't stop Thongsuk winning gold in Asiad
30/11/2006 10:08

Although Olympic champion Pawina Thongsuk suffered a knee injury, she still had a chance of winning a gold medal, said Thailand's women's weightlifting coach Zhang Jiamin.

"Pawina arrived in Doha this afternoon, and she is going to train tomorrow morning," Chinese Zhang Jiamin said.

"Her injury is not a big problem, and I believe if she does nothing wrong in the competition, she will win the women's 63kg category," Zhang said.

Thongsuk took the gold medal in the 75kg category in the Athens Olympics, and she was degraded into the 63kg category to win the gold again in the world championships here last year.

Boossaba Yodbangtoey, president of the Thailand Amateur Weightlifting Association, told the Bangkok Post that Thongsuk hurt her left knee in training and it did not look good.

"I don't care about Thongsuk's physical condition. She is my main opponent. As long as she comes, I will get prepared to beat her," said Chinese lifter Ouyang Xiaofang, who will compete in the same category.
