The Maldives men's volleyball team for the 15th Asian Games has been hit by
chicken pox after several players were diagnosed as infected, the Doha Games
organizers confirmed on Wednesday.
Dr Abdulwahal Al-Mussleh, the program manager for health care and doping
control of the DACOG, said that the disease was spotted shortly in one Maldives
player after the men's volleyball team arrived in Doha last week.
"He was immediately isolated and the whole team was screened for chicken box.
None of them showed any indication of the disease at that stage," Al-Mussleh
told a daily press briefing.
Since then the whole men's volleyball team has been isolated and all are on
anti-viral medicine, he added.
Due to the chicken pox outbreak, the Maldives team was forced to withdraw
from its Pool A match against Chinese Taipei on Tuesday. After its opponent's
withdrawal, Chinese Taipei entered the preliminary round two as the top finisher
of Pool A with Kuwait, which beat Maldives 3-0 on Sunday.
