Chinese swimmers will get bonus if they achieve good results here in the
15th Asian Games, Zhang Yadong, the head coach of the swimming team said in
Doha yesterday.
"I hope all the swimmers can create their best results here. If they achieve
good results, they will get bonus, which is a new incentive policy of the
swimming team," said Zhang, also former coach of Athen Olympic champion Luo
Xuejuan.
Setting a new world record will bring the athlete 200,000 yuan (about 25,000
US dollars), a personal best, 100,000 yuan while a podium finish is worth at
least 10,000, Zhang said.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics of China, the highest average
monthly income in this October, which occurred in Beijing, is 1,878 yuan.
"We did not set a goal for the Asian Games but still, we would like to urge
our athletes, both new and experienced to have great results," Zhang said.
"So if they only have podium finish without a best result, they will not get
good return," he added.
China fielded 39 swimmers to the 15th Asian Games that officially begins on
Friday.
