Nguyen Tien Minh should be granted the MVP award on Thursday's court as the
Vietnamese won over two seeded shuttlers in the men's team competition at the
Doha Asian Games.
Although Vietnam lost to South Korea and Thailand successively,23-year-old
Nguyen grabbed two points for the noteless team.
In the morning, Nguyen shocked the South Korean team by defeating their first
single Lee Hyun Il 16-21, 21-14 and 21-12. Lee was the runner-up in the men's
singles at 2002 Busan Asian Games and is the fourth seed in the singles this
time.
Talking about his win over the world No. 7, Nguyen said, "I think he was very
nervous. I was very relaxed because I didn't think I would win."
Nguyen continued his brave in the evening, beating Thai's top player Boonsak
Ponsana 21-18, 18-21 and 21-10. "I don't know why I did so well in this match
but I'm happy," said an high-spirited Nguyen.
Nguyen began playing when he was 11 years old and planned to retire at the
age of 28 years old then become a coach. The sprat said he's going to try his
best to take part in the Olympics.
