Senior table tennis official plays down DPR Korea threats
3/12/2006 12:13

DPR Korea's female paddlers are hardly a main threat to China in the Asian Games, said a senior sports official in charge of table tennis in Doha yesterday.
"In the women's table tennis, South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong of China are our major opponents. I don't think DPR Korea is playing so well here at the Asiad," said Cai Zhenhua, an assistant to Chinese sports minister Liu Peng.
After watching China's 3-0 victory against South Korea in the women's team semifinals, the former head coach of the Chinese national team held his thumbs up. "I think the Chinese team is performing very well today, but the DPR Korean team is technically on a same par and they are constantly changing their strategy," he said.
Talking about the performance of China's veteran Wang Nan, who has been regarded one of the living legends after pocketing all in table tennis, Cai said: "Wang Nan just underwent a change of training methods and she has reached her form."
China will vie for the women's team crown with Singapore, the semifinal winner over DPR Korea.
