3/12/2006 12:20

Chinese Pang Jiaying beat her compatriot and defending champion Yang Yu to win the first swimming gold medal of the 15th Asian Games in the women's 200m freestyle in Doha yesterday.
Pang, who beat Yang at last year's East Asian Games in Macau, China to win the gold, triumphed again in one minute 59.26 seconds.
"I am satisfied with my performance today as I brought my ability to a good display. You know, I have been bothered by rhinitis recently," said Pang.
Yang, the bronze medalist at the 2005 World Championships in Montreal, took the silver in 2:00.73 while Japanese Maki Mita was third in 2:00.78.
Yang said she would not spend too much time regretting the loss because there is a bigger goal for her.
"I don't think it is too bad for me. Although I am not the winner but anyway China got the gold," she said. "My ultimate goal is the 2008 Olympic Games."
