Three new world records in the women's58kg weightlifting was a gift to the
host Doha, said an official in Chinese sports delegation here on Sunday.
"Breaking world record was within our plan. There was no new world record
since the Asiad opened before Chen broke the world records. It
is a gift to the host city Doha and whole Asia," said Ma Wenguang, president of
the Chinese Weightlifting Association.
Athens Olympic gold medallist Chen Yanqing broke three world records to win
the women's 58kg weightlifting gold with a total of251kg on Sunday.
Chen snatched 111kg and jerked 140kg for a total of 251kg, breaking the world
records of the snatch, jerk and total respectively.
"Chen is powerful, but breaking world records was not that easy for her. I am
happy that she did that," Ma added.
