4/12/2006 10:32

Indonesian star shuttler Taufik Hidayat enjoyed an easy win after Boonsak Ponsana from Thailand retired for illness in the men's badminton team event of the 15th Asian Games here on Sunday.

Athens Olympic champion Taufik led 6-2 in the first set when Thai top player Ponsana came to the net and said a few words to Taufik. Then both of the players picked up their racket bags and stepped out of the court.

Taufik told reporters later that Ponsana said he was ill and decided to give up the game. Ponsana refused to reveal any details, going directly to the athletes passage.

Ponsana was ranked 11th in the men's singles world rankings, a place higher than Taufik.
