Hong Kong, China will compete in the Asian Games dressage team event for the
first time as the horse sport kicks off here on Monday.
Gerald Kuh, Chef d'Equipe of Hong Kong told Xinhua that all three riders, the
minimum requirement for the team event, are based out of Hong
Kong.
"We have a team of three riders, one based in the United States and two from
Britain," said Kuh. "I think we have better chance (of winning medals) in
individual than team event."
Monday's team event features 10 squads from India, Japan, Kazakhstan, South
Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Qatar, Syria, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong, China.
Although Hong Kong, China has scratch result to spare, the athletes said they
are up to the challenge.
"We don't care but will all try out best, and we have high expectations,"
said Jacqueline W.Y. Siu, the squad's youngest member.
The 23-year-old will take her horse Jamiro, 15, to the Doha Asiad.
Aram Harutune Gregory, a seventh place finisher of the Busan Asiad four years
ago, will lead the team with his horse Lucky Star.
Xilo Chiu Lily, aged 45, is the oldest member of Hong Kong.
