Wong Kam Po claimed the men's individual cycling road race title for Hong Kong, China at the 15th Asian Games here on Sunday.

This is the first gold medal for the Hong Kong delegation at the Doha Asiad.

"I felt really happy about the result. My hard work for these years paid out," said Wong.

"I proved myself still the best in Asia," added Wong.

At the Bangkok Asiad in 1998, Wong won the gold medal and four years later he settled for a bronze at the Busan Asiad.

Although he has spent more time on the track cycling recently, Wong is still a force to be reckoned with in road race in Asia.

When being asked about his next goal, the 33-year-old Wong did not hide his ambition for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

"Of course, I hope I can take part in the Beijing Olympic Games," said Wong.

Wong was timed at 3 hours 45 minutes and 2 seconds for the gold. Mehdi Sohrabi of Iran took the silver, followed by Park Sung Baek of South Korea, all at the same time.
