It's still China's show in weightlifting
4/12/2006 16:15

Chinese won all the weightlifting gold medals on offer for the second consecutive day at the Asian Games.
After the second day's competition, China bagged all six golds while Thailand followed with three silvers and one bronze. Vietnam took the third with one silver in men's 56kg.
Athens Olympic gold medallist Chen Yanqing shocked Asia as she broke three world records en route to winning the women's 58kg class gold medal with a total of 251kg.
Chen, 27, snatched 111kg in her third attempt to thrash the world record of 110kg, set by her compatriot Wang Li in 2003.
Chen sustained her momentum in her last attempt when she jerked 140kg to break the world of the kind by one kilogram, thus also raising the world record of the total to 251kg, nine kilograms more than the original mark set by Chinese Gu Wei in the 2005 worlds.
Veteran Wandee Kameaim of Thailand, met severe challenge from dark horse Pak Hyon Suk of DPR Korea. Both hoisted 224kg, but Kameaim took the silver due to the bodyweight advantage.
"The Asian Games are the second largest sports meeting in the world. In my heart, the Olympics and the Asiad are both important to me. I told myself to be brilliant in Doha, and I did it," she added.
In men's 69kg division, Olympic champion Zhang Guozheng was successful with his final clean and jerk attempt to claim a dramatic gold.
Zhang, 32-year-old, lifted 184kg on his third attempt to take his total to 336k, one kilogram better than his compatriot Shi Zhiyong, silver medallist in 62kg class in Athens.
Kim Sun Bae of South Korea took bronze on a total of 307kg.
"I haven't competed in any events for almost one year because of family issues, so winning gold medal in the Asiad is great encouragement for me," Zhang told the press.
"I am still a rookie in 69kg division and I have performed my best. Zhang is more powerful than I and I think I should learn from him," Shi said.
Reigning world champion Qiu Le was poised to thrash his competitors, winning the 62kg-category gold medal with a total of 317kg .
Qiu's compatriot Mao Jiao, 21, took the silver at 315kg and Im Yong Su of DPR Korea lifted a total of 300kg for the bronze.
"Our plan was to secure one gold. Because Mao and I lifted much more than others in the competition, so both of us tried our best to win the gold," Qiu said.
