Indonesian medal hopeful Putty Insavilla Armein delivered the first medal
for the country after finishing second in the women's singles bowling
competition at the 15th Asian Games over the weekend. Putty, who is currently
Asia's number 1, had led in the morning group with a total score of 1,395 pins,
or 232.5 pins per game. But Malaysian Esther Mei Lan Cheah, the 2005 world
champion, spoiled her lead by scoring 1,444 pins or 240.7 pins per game, to
snatch the gold. The bronze went to Angkana Netrviseth of Thailand , who took
1, 331 pins or 221.8 per game. "I don't want to lie by saying I'm not
disappointed. I am. I see it (my defeat) as God's will," Putty was quoted Monday
by English daily The Jakarta Post as saying. "It's just not my time. But I
believe my time will come. There are many other events to compete in as there
are six gold medals available." Putty said she hoped she would be able to
keep her up performance in the women's doubles, women's trios and women's team
five. Bowling is offering 12 gold medals at the Asiad, both in the men's and
women's sections. Indonesia will also compete in the men's doubles and
women's doubles on Monday.
