Chinese sailors eye medals in 2008 Olympics

China sent more young athletes to Doha for the Asiad sailing event and the experienced at home are busy training for qualification for the 2008 Olympics, the Chinese team manager Wei Di said Monday.

"Some of the excellent athletes are busy training at home sinceit's the winter training season for the Chinese sailing team," Wei told Xinhua at the Doha Sailng Club on Monday morning, one day before the first races of the sailing competition at the Asiad.

As for the upcoming sailing competitions at Doha, Wei said that the goal for the team is two gold medals, a humble ambition compared to six gold medals won in 2002 at the Busan Asian Games.

The Chinese team will field 13 athletes, including 2006 world champion Xu Lijia, to compete in 10 out of 14 events in Doha.
