Yang Jieqiao claimed the second swimming gold of the night for China when she
won in the 400m freestyle here on Monday in the Asian Games.
Yang, an long-distance swimming expert, clocked a winning time of four
minutes 12:75 seconds to win her first ever Asian Games glory
after pulling off the 800m and 1,500m freestyle titles in East Asian Games last
year.
Yang's teammate Zhu Wenrui, 16, took the silver to give China a one-two
finish in 4:14:45. Lee Ji Eun of South Korea won the bronze in 4:14:95.
The 16-year-old Yang said she was not satisfied with her result despite of
the gold.
"I did not improve my result, so I am disappointed. I think I need stiffer
competition to give me a boost in form," she said.
Ai Shibata, gold medalist in 800m free in Athens Olympic Games, was missing
from Japanese roster for the Asian Games.
