While other Southeast Asian nations cheer their victories, the Philippines is
still looking for the first medal in the 15th Asian Games, local media reported
on Tuesday.
The Philippine team waited for a medal finish in bowling on Monday, but ended
up holding an empty bag, The Manila Bulletin reported.
The pair of Markwin Tee and Tyrone Ongpauco took third place in the first
half of the men's doubles, but was relegated to fifth by a surging Saudi Arabia
team later in the afternoon.
Elsewhere Monday, the Filipinos went 6-of-6 in boxing and won their first
match in tennis, but took stinging defeats in chess and billiards.
Swimming continued to be a disappointment, said the report. All Filipinos
were eliminated in the individual events.
The report also said the Filipinos bombed out in the singles events in
bowling, suffered their first defeat in beach volleyball, got wiped out in judo
and lost their way in road cycling.
Four days into the Games, among Southeast Asian nations, Thailand had two
golds, including a world record win in weightlifting, while Indonesia and
Malaysia had gold each.
