The Chinese gymnasts continued their golden spree on apparatus by pocketing three gold medals out of five on offer at the Doha Asian Games yesterday.

DPR Korea stamped out to grab two including a shared title with Japan and South Korea on pommel horse as Chinese "pommel king" Xiao Qin and all-round champion Yang Wei falling from the horse.

Twice world champion Cheng Fei collected average 15.387 points to beat DPR Korean duo to notch the women's vault gold.

Cheng Fei entered the women's vault final as the most decorated competitor on this apparatus. Cheng's challenge came from DPR Korean Hong Su Jong and Hong Un Jong who finished second and third with 15.237 and 14.962 points respectively.

Cheng's first vault earned her only 15.175 points, lower than Hong Su Jong's 15.500. But the world champion just made an overtaking by scoring 15.600 points with her signature action against Hong's 14.975 to get the gold.

"I don't think I performed very well today. The two DPR Korean gymnasts are improving on vault and posing a threat to me. But their accuracy is still not that good by now," Cheng said.

Hiroyuki Tomita of Japan, Kim Soo Myun of South Korea and Jo Jong Chol of DPR Korea shared the gold of pommel horse with 15.375points.

China's Xiao Qin fell from the pommel horse for losing balance. The top qualifier fell down after a series of outstanding swaying and Thomas action. His left hand slipped on the horse to cost him the most favored gold medal.

Yang Wei, the second-ranked qualifier on the apparatus, followed his teammate to fall from the horse over rounds of swing to settle with 14.525 points at seventh.

China and DPR Korea have shared the men's pommel horse crown at the past two Asian Games.

"I just practise a new routine of Thomas at that moment. I fell down for I did not control the routine well by now," said Xiao.

"I don't feel very good physically at the Games. My wrist injury has not fully recovered and the fatigue is still there for the tight training after world championships in Aarhus, so I think the physical condition is also a problem for me.

China's Chen Yibing and Yang Wei were crowned on rings by shared 16.575 points.

Chen proved his world championships win was not a fluke when he grabbed the gold of the rings in a score of 16.575 points.

Chen showed superior control in his routine, with a steadiness on the apparatus, which is an important factor to achieve maximum scores on the rings, demanding high on strength.

Timur Kurbanbayev from Kazakhstan was third with 16.300 points.

"Today I felt very relaxed in the match. I got a cold and coughed for several days, but it did not affect my performance much. I am satisfied with my score and my routine," said the coughing Chen.

China's Zou Kai unfurled Tuesday's floor exercise with a flawless routine to win the gold.

Zou earned 16.000 as the starter of the event and Zou's teammate Liang Fuliang came in second with 15.800 points, with South Korean Kim Soo Myun the third on 15.600. DPR Korea's Jo JongChol missed the medal trailing only 0.50 points behind Kim.

The 18-year-old Zou Kai came to the final as top qualifier to present a set of twisting of acrobatics. Zou Kai, the sixth finisher at the Aarhus worlds in October, led the apparatus all through and rendered no chance of the followers to challenge.

Hong Su Jong beat China's He Ning to win the uneven bars title, grabbing the second gold for DPR Korea at Asiad.

Hong was the last to act and marked the highest score of 15.525points, surpassing China's He Ning, who led provisionally with 15.000 points. Hong demonstrated a flawless routine, but He Ning's accuracy was not that good.

Zhou Zhuoru committed a mistake for failing to accomplish the complete action and finished only sixth.

Hong's teammate Cha Yong Hwa took the bronze with 14.800 points.
