Cao Lei overcame seven rivals to win an uninspired women's 75kg
weightlifting with a total of 272kg here on Tuesday.
Cao Lei, current world champion, snatched 120kg and jerked 152kg to earn the
gold, but was 14kg short of the world record and 13kg outside of the Asian Games
record.
Oo Mya Sanda of Myanmar, 30, hoisted a total of 250kg for the silver, which
was Myanmar's second silver in the Asiad weightlifting tournament and the
29-year-old Kim Soon Hee of South Korea claimed the bronze at 246kg.
"I want to thank my coach who discovered my potential in 75kg division," said
Cao, who just upgraded from women's 69kg to 75kg class this year.
Kim, who took the fourth place in the 2006 world championships at 243kg,
three kilograms short of her performance here, said: "I suffered an ankle injury
in training last month. I am happy to win the bronze medal although I had
planned for the silver."
"I could lift 252kg in training, so I am not satisfied with today's result,"
Oo said.
When asked about the 2008 Olympics, Oo said: "I was too concentrated on the
Asian Games, and I have never thought of the Beijing Olympics. But I will try my
best to get a berth in Beijing," she added.
