The sailing competitions of the 15th Asian Games in Doha, which was
scheduled to kick off at 11:00 (0800 GMT) on Tuesday morning, was delayed due to
lack of wind on the open sea.
"Due to lack of wind on the sea, the sailing races were postponed until 1:00
p.m. (1000 GMT)," the venue media manager fo rthe sailing races Vanessa Bellamy
told reporters half an hour after the scheduled start time at the Doha Sailing
Club, which is the venue for the races.
"If there is no wind at 1:00 (1000 GMT) in the afternoon, the sailors will
wait till 3:00 p.m. (1200 GMT)," Bellamy said, adding, "The races for Tuesday
would be canceled if there is still no enough wind till then."
The media manager said the wind speed at the racing courses on the open sea
was about three knots (about half a meter per second), which is not strong
enough for the races.
According to the original schedule, there should be 13 out of 14 sailing
events, except the match racing, to be competed at the open sea of Doha Bay on
Tuesday morning.
